Reykjavik / Iceland

During the expedition there will be colloquia, lectures and workshops with the artists and the interdisciplinary partners. These so called hydroformances offer space for public discussions to present the different topics and point of views of all participants.

Iceland – in focus on art, economics and science

The forces of nature – glaciers, hot springs, the ocean and volcanic activity – all part of a delicate equilibrium, are shaping and reshaping Iceland continuously. These phenomena are all closely related to energy. Iceland is well on its way to independence from fossil fuels like oil, coal and natural gas, and is relying increasingly on energy from its own natural resources.

The lectures and dialogues at this conference/meeting centred on the potential of waterpower, geothermal energy and Iceland’s claim to economic development by way of novel, resource-conserving technologies that take advantage of the county’s unique natural conditions.

Hydrogen produced from Island’s natural resources could represent a shrewd alternative to the fossil fuels used in today’s mobile applications (e.g. automobile fleets and fishing fleets). Collaborative pilot projects to demonstrate the real-life potential of new hydrogen technology been planned.
