Vernagtferner/ Ötz Valley 2007
Ascent from the Austrian alpine village Vent to the Vernagtferner. First destination: the Vernagtbach gauging station built in 1973. Tour of the climate gauging station, one of the worldwide leading research facilities for long-term glacier observation. Highly sensitive equipment continually measures air pressure, temperature, humidity, wind velocity, precipitation, solar radiation and runoff. The data is sent to the Munich Commission of Glaciology via SMS text messages on a daily basis. Second destination: the glacier itself, which already clearly manifests changes caused by climate warming. (Calling the Glacier by Kalle Laar)
